Earlier this month, Bradley, Arkansas Mayor Alice Carlson and four other Bradley city employees resigned. Now, the town's new mayor says Bradle is experiencing financial problems.
The Bradley City Council officially appointed Renea Ikegulu as mayor. One of her first tasks was to check on the financial state of the city.
Tuesday, the mayor told KSLA News 12 there is a deficit of more than $1,400 in the city's payroll account.
Ikegulu explained they only have $1,093.53 in the general fund. The mayor said, under advisement of the Arkansas Municipal League, that they have cashed in a CD in order to meet the payroll of the city's five employees.
The mayor said the monthly average of bills for the city is $6,000 and the cashed in CD should help meet the expenses for the next two to three months.
However, Mayor Ikegulu would not say if the city was financially broke. She said the next step will be determined from the results of the legislature audit.
