Lexington Town officials break ground Tuesday on a new amphitheater downtown.
The Project Ice House Amphitheater will be built in an open field behind Main Street near Church Street. A groundbreaking was held Tuesday morning.
Construction on the 900-seat amphitheater is expected to be completed by spring 2016. The Project Icehouse development includes plans for boutique retail and restaurants.
The project is part of the Vision Plan passed by Town Council in 2012, intended to connect various sites throughout downtown, including Lexington Square Park, Virginia Hylton Park, Lexington Municipal Complex, Project Ice House and Palmetto Collegiate Institute.
